Guy Gavriel Kay is a Canadian writer of fantasy fiction. The majority of his novels take place in fictional settings that resemble real places during real historical periods, such as Constantinople during the reign of Justinian I or Spain during the time of El Cid. He has published twelve fiction novels and one book of poetry. The first three books are set in the fantasy world of Fionavar, and together they form the foundation to which all the other books allude. The Fionavar Tapestry, as it's called, consists of The Summer Tree, The Wandering Fire, and The Darkest Road. These titles are followed by Tigana, A Song for Arbonne, The Lions of Al-Rassan, The Last Light of the Sun, and The Sarantine Mosaic, which consists of the two books, Sailing to Sarantium and Lord of Emperors. The next book, Ysabel, revisits some characters from the original story in our modern world, and that is followed by Under Heaven and it's sequel, River of Stars. Finally, Children of Earth and Sky, and A Brightness Long Ago complete the list of novels, and Beyond this Dark House is the title of the book of poetry. These books are winners of numerous pretigious awards, and are the subject of a number of scholarly papers. They are richly detailed, superbly written and will stir your imagination. Once you have read them, these books will stay with you - in a place in your soul, always.
