Being Crafty

Creativity is intelligence having fun!
- Albert Einstein -

A craft or trade is a pastime or an occupation that requires particular skills and knowledge of skilled work. The traditional term craftsman is nowadays often replaced by artisan and by craftsperson, but I prefer to think of it as a hobby. Being crafty and creative is something I've enjoyed since I was child, it helps me relax but also means I have nice things (on a budget). It certainly helped me get through lockdown and I've listed my top three crafts below.

  1. Upcyling furniture
Upcycling is a method in which old or discarded materials are converted into something reusable. When you upcycle an item you aren't breaking down any materials, just purely refashioning it. ... Additionally the quality of the upcycled item has same or even better quality than the original. IKEA furniture is easy to make into something unique, here are some of my favourite IKEA hacks.
  2. Resin
Resin is not just a fancy word for average plastic. It is a composite blend, which can be moulded into any form for a strong and pliable product that can mimic the look of stone and metal materials at a more affordable cost and a fraction of the weight. I'll be creating a lighting feature with a wooden log and resin for my next project.
  3. Macramé
Macramé is a form of textile produced using knotting (rather than weaving or knitting) techniques, like the feathers above. The results are beautiful but can take a long time to complete.
