Guatemalan coffees offer some exceptionally varied regional flavour profiles -ranging fom sweet with cocoa and toffee notes, to herval, citrus, or floral coffees that display a crisp acidity.
There are many microclimates here - from the mountain range to the plaints- and these, with the varied rainfall patterns and rich soils, create coffee with a huge range of flavours. Coffee grows in nearly all of the departments, within these regions there are great variations in aroma and flavour, influenced by varieties and local microclimates.
According to the Holdridge classification, Guatemala has approximately 360 microclimates and 14 life zones. Biotemperature and rainfall vay in relatively small areas of land because of the steep topography.
Mean yearly temperatures at sea level are 27° C for the pacific Ocean and
28° C for the Caribbean Sea.
Starting at sea level, these increase by 1° C per 166 m of altitude. Maximun temperatures inland may vary from 40° C while the minimum
temperatures drop to below 0 °C in areas 2,000 m below sea level. Just to
finish talking about the Guatemala temperatures has two weather season:
the dry season (summer) and the rainy season (winter) around 45 -60 days a
year wherear in the northern areas report around 200 days of rain each
year.
Guatemala is characterized by warm tropical weather that changes
extensibely depending on the altitude.
