MAN - TRA
(mind) (transport)

What is it?

Mantra is an instrument of the mind— a powerful sound or vibration that you can use to enter a deep state of meditation.

Origin?

Mantra at its core, is the basis of all religious traditions, scriptures, and prayers. When carefully chosen and used silently, mantras are said to have the ability to help alter your subconscious impulses, habits, and afflictions. Mantras, when spoken or chanted, direct the healing power of Prana (life force energy) and, in traditional Vedic practices, can be used to energize and access spiritual states of consciousness.

Scientific background?

If you thought, well this is just some spiritual mumbo-jumbo. I assure you that science keeps confirming the effects of sound and vibration on our brain. Thomas Ashley-Farrand talks about the ability of sound to transform energy and writes in his book Mantra Meditation: “Repeating any sound produces an actual physical vibration. Nowhere is this idea truer than in Sanskrit mantra. When chanted out loud or silently, mantras create a single, powerful vibration… Over time, the mantra process begins to override and absorb all the smaller vibrations, which eventually become subsumed within the mantra. Mantra chanting was proven to help oxygenate the brain, reduce our heart rate, blood pressure and assist in creating calm brainwave activity. Research shows that even plants are affected by certain types of sound waves, especially mantras.
