Matcha tea | 抹茶
What you'll need:
a traditional matcha bowl, a bamboo whisk, hot water and a spoon. For
one tea bowl, use 1½ scoops of green tea powder (= about 2 g) and 2 to
2.4 oz (60-70 ml) of hot water.
Curiosity:
Matcha is finelly milled green tea powder. It is different from regular
green tea leafs because its plantations aren´t exposed directly to
sunlight for some time before harvesting. The tea leaves provides
vitamin c, fibre, catechines, caffeine and potassium.High in
antioxidants, this tea offers many great health benefits and helps relax
and focus the mind.
Onigiri | おにぎり
What you'll need:
warm/hot rice and for a Tuna Mayo Filling, mix 1 canned tuna, 2
Tbsp Japanese mayonnaise, a half Tbsp soy sauce and salt.
Curiosity: Onigiri is a Japanese
rice ball made of rice formed into triangular shapes, it is often
wrapped in nori (dried edible seaweed that has a lot of
vitamins) and stuffed with various fillings. The rice is kept fresh
longer by filling it with salty or sour ingredient as natural
preservatives. That’s why salt is rubbed on hands when you make onigiri
so that rice is kept safe for a longer time.
Hanami Dango | 花見団子
What you'll need: 1 cup
joshinko (japanese rice flour); 1 cup
shiratamako (glutinous/sweet rice flour) ½ cup sugar; ¾ cup hot
water; 1 Tbsp yomogi (mugwort) or 1 to 1.5 tsp matcha green tea powder;
2 Tbsp hot water and red food coloring.

Curiosity: Hanami Dango are
sweet dumplings made with rice flour and skewered on a stick. The 3
dumplings are pink, white and green(from top to bottom). This popular
sweet is enjoyed in Japan during the cherry blossom viewing (or
Hanami in japanese).
