a beginner's guide
The Strelitzia nicolai, or White Bird of Paradise, can grow up to about 8 feet when mature and healthy. Of course, it's up to each plant owner to decide how large of a plant they'd like, but we all want a healthy one!
Below are some tips to keeping your White Bird of Paradise happy, healthy, and flourishing.
-
Mist them often.
Bird of Paradise plants love humidity. In addition to your watering schedule, take a little extra time to mist them either once a day or several times a day! -
Chill out on the sunshine.
All plants will need a measure of light in order to grow well, but the Bird of Paradise doesn't love a lot of direct sunlight. Place your plant in a space with indirect light for best results. It will thank you! -
Don't be afraid to prune!
Some plant leaves will begin to brown or have other imperfections over time. If you cut these leaves away, your plant will be able to use its energy toward the healthier leaves (and growing new ones)! Check out this video on how to prune a Bird of Paradise plant. -
Watch out for the vents.
When it gets hot or cold, we usually want to turn on the heat or air conditioning. The Bird of Paradise doesn't, though! They don't like extreme temperatures, so be sure to keep it away from your vents!
