Youth in Development Data

Research for the Next Generation

~The next generation is always the most important~
In low- and middle-income countries, young people (under the age of 25) make up an average of 40% (and in some places up to 60%) of the population. While these statistics make it clear that it is crucial to prepare this portion of the population to take on the world's challenges, there are unfortunately many barriers to education, civic engagement, stability and innovation. These barriers include poor education and healthcare systems, lack of employment opportunities, forced migration, and conflict and violence. Therefore, it is essential that communities find ways to engage youth in decision-making conversations, where they can give their input in improving the systems that affect them.

Here we aim to understand young people, their strengths, concerns, and priorities. As youth take on leadership roles, it's important that we observe and support them as they forge new, innovative paths in the world.
