As one of the building blocks of modern club music, it’s hard to imagine how a night out raving might sound now if house music hadn’t emerged in the 1980s. The genre’s origins are, of course, in those pioneering underground clubs of Chicago and New York catering for predominantly black and gay audiences. And to this day, house music retains that same inclusivity and continues to thrive across generations.
