Gossip Girl

book series turned tv hit

Gossip Girl is an american tv series based on the books written by Cecily Von Ziegesar and adapted to television by Josh Schartz ("The O.C", "Dinasty") and Stephanie Savage ("The Carrie Diaries", "Nancy Drew"). It was broadcast by The CW during its six seasons run and it became an instant success. The series revolves around the lives of privileged upper-class adolescents living in Manhattan's Upper East Side. It begins with the return of Upper East Side teenage "it girl" Serena van der Woodsen from a mysterious absence. It catapulted its actors to stardom, such as Blake Lively ("The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants", "The Age of Adaline"), Penn Badgley ("John Tucker Must Die", "You"), and Leighton Meester ("The Roomate", "Single Parents"). The show became an ambassador for New York City, setting off numerous "Gossip Girl tours of NYC" and having its own day in the city's calendar. Thats true! In celebration of GG's 100th episode in January, 2012, former mayor Michael Bloomberg announced January 26th as "Gossip Girl Day". To this day, Gossip Girl is such a hit that the show is getting a sequel with HBO Max, to be released this July, 2021. Nearly a decade after the conclusion of the original series, a new cast of Manhattan private schoolers takes the lead under the watchful eye of Gossip Girl, while demonstrating how much social media – and the landscape of New York City itself – has changed in the intervening years.
