Originally created by the Shona people of Zimbabwe in Africa, the
kalimba consists of a wooden box with staggered metal tines. It is
played using mostly the thumbs, but can also make use of the right and
left forefingers. The kalimba in the image above is the 17-key kalimba,
a version of the african mbira created by Hugh Tracey in 1954.
After buying my own kalimba, it confused me as to why it wasn't more
popular than it was. It is a very easy instrument to learn, and are
generally not very expensive either. I found it really fun and easy to
play all of my favorite songs on it, no tutorial needed🎶
