A mango is an edible stone fruit produced by the tropical tree Mangifera
indica (M. indica), which is believed to have originated from the region
between northwestern Myanmar, Bangladesh, and northeastern India. It has
been cultivated in South and Southeast Asia since ancient times, and is
very popular among Tamil people.
Mango orginated from the Portuguese word
'Manga', but is believed to originally derive from the
Tamil word மாங்காய் (mankay, man
=mango tree + kay=fruit).
