Coffee is one of the most widely consumed beverages in the world. With
roughly 400 million cups being drunk a day in the United States alone,
there's no question that coffee plays an integral part of many people's
lives; yet it stands that few know where our coffee comes from.
The coffee beans that we use to brew with are the seeds of the berries
from the Coffea plant. These plants are cultivated in over 70 countries,
mostly along the Equator. The berries are processed in 1 of 3 ways:
natural, washed, or honey; before the seeds are roasted into the "coffee
beans" that we then grind and prepare in a variety of ways.
Coffee is most well known for it's stimulant qualities due to it's heavy
caffeine content, which helps many people feel energized throughout the
day. However, coffee has many other health benefits, including but not
limited to: decreasing your chances of developing type II diabetes,
reduces the risk of Alzheimer's and dementia, and giving your body a
variety of antioxidants.
Coffee is a wonderful, rich beverage that can be enjoyed in so many
different ways. It not only offers comfort and ritual to individuals,
but it also brings communities together.
