Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, clinical laboratory
scientists (also called clinical/medical lab technologists) have been
working non-stop behind the scenes to test COVID-19 samples and deliever
accurate results in a timely manner. Along with that, we continue to
test other samples and provide results required for diagnosis and
treatment for other diseases. The field encompasses a wide variety of
areas such as microbiology, hematology, clinical chemistry, blood
banking, histology, and cytology. Although we do not interact directly
with patients, we still play a vital role in thier care.
It is estimated that 70% of medical decisons made by physcicans are
based on the results provided by lab technologists.
