What is the untamed?
The Untamed (Chinese: 陈情令; pinyin: Chén Qíng Lìng) is a 50 episode limited Chinese TV series based on the novel Mó Dào Zǔ Shī (lit: Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation) by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu, starring Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo. The series depicts a fictional Xianxia world where humans attempt to cultivate to a state of immortality, known as Xian. The protagonist of the series, Wei Wuxian, due to certain circumstances, deviated from the conventional cultivation path to Xian, and eventually created Mo Dao (the Demonic Path).
The Untamed was a critical and commercial success, both locally and internationally, with critics praising its strong plot, well-rounded characters, and elaborate clothing and makeup. It became one of the highest-earning dramas of 2019. Besides the live action adaptation, the original web novel has also received a fan translation and been adapated into a donghua (animated series), a manhua (Chinese manga) and an audio drama. A mobile game is set to be released this year.
