Build your own scaffold board coffee table

In 7 simple steps

As we have become more atuned to environmental issues and our need to be more eco-friendly, upcycling has become a big trend over the past years. Today I will show you how to build a coffee table out of scaffold boards - these scaffold boards have been put to work for decades on constructions sites and now you can re-purpose them and bring a unique industrial vibe to your home decor.

Materials/tools needed:

Step 1

Using your jigsaw, cut the scaffold planks to the desired length.

Step 2

Using the belt sander, sand the scaffold planks with course grit sand paper to remove the wood's weathered surface. Once finished, remove any surface sawdust. (Click here to see my before and after

Step 3

Again, using the belt sander, sand the scaffold planks with fine/very fine grit sand paper to achieve a smooth finish and expose the natural grain of the wood (you can really see the grain coming through here).

Step 4

Apply Gorilla glue to both sides of the central plank plank and the inside side of both outer planks. Glue and hold together for 12 hours. Ensure inward pressure is applied from both sides for the duration of the 12 hours (you can use something heavy like bricks on either side of it, like this).

Step 5

Flip the table top onto its front and, having cut the wooden batten to the desired length, screw it into the centre of the underside of the table. The batten should sit across all 3 planks and each of the 3 screws should go through the batten into each individual scaffold board.

Step 6

Whilst the table top is flipped, screw the table legs into the underside of the table top.

Step 7

Flip the table back round to sit on the table legs and finish the table by protecting it with clear Briwax (using a wax brush or a cloth - be sure to remove any surface dust before applying the wax).

Et voilรก! You have built your very own scaffold board coffee table. Remember to use coasters (you don't want your hard work to go to waste)!
