The Eurovision Song Contest, also called
Le Grand-Prix Eurovision de la Chanson Européenne, is an annual
singing contest organized by the European Broadcasting Union. The
competition, begun in 1956, gathers performers—selected at the national
level by each participating country’s public broadcasting service—from
across Europe and representing virtually every genre of popular music.
65 contests have been held as of 2021, making
Eurovision the longest-running annual international televised music
competition as determined by Guinness World Records. The contest has
been listed as one of the longest-running television programmes in the
world and among the world’s most watched non-sporting events.
In 2021, Italy's Måneskin took home the trophy
with their song 'Zitti e buoni', narrowly beating out France and
Switzerland.
