Let me introduce a favourite Singaporean breakfast called the kaya toast set.
This set consists kaya toast, soft boiled eggs and a hot drink.
And it can be found in many coffee shops around the island.
Kaya is a local green or brown jam made of coconut milk, eggs and sugar. This fragrant jam is traditionally cooked over low heat for many hours. The warm kaya toast is served with cold pieces of butter.
The 2 warm eggs are soft-boiled and served whole. So, you would just crack them open into a dish, and add dark soya sauce and white pepper to taste. Many people like to dip their kaya toast in the plates of eggs.
The hot drink is usually a kopi which is local coffee, or teh, which is local tea. The drink can be served with or without sugar, and with or without condensed milk or evaporated milk.
