What's Animation ?

The simulation of movement created by a series of pictures is animation. But how it actually works is a bit more complicated than that. Before we get to the various types of animated motion pictures, let's start with an animation definition.

Animation is a method of photographing successive drawings, models, or even puppets, to create an illusion of movement in a sequence. Because our eyes can only retain an image for approx. 1/10 of a second, when multiple images appear in fast succession, the brain blends them into a single moving image. In traditional animation, pictures are drawn or painted on transparent celluloid sheets to be photographed. Early cartoons are examples of this, but today, most animated movies are made with computer-generated imagery or CGI.

To create the appearance of smooth motion from these drawn, painted, or computer-generated images, frame rates, or the number of consecutive images that are displayed each second, is considered. Moving characters are usually shot on twos which just means one image is shown for two frames, totaling in at 12 drawings per second. 12 frames per second allows for motion but may look choppy. In the film, a frame rate of 24 frames per second is often used for smooth motion.

2D Animation

2D animation is the art of creating movement in a two-dimensional space. It's always a classic and is mostly seen in cartoons or movies. Sometimes it's hard to believe that every frame is drawn by hand, either on paper or using thechnologie. Unlike many thing it doesn't seem so out of reach since you can do the same, you just need to pick up a pencil and let your imagination fly. Companies like Disney, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and quite amazingly Sergio Pablos Animation Sudios do a great job!

Stop Motion

Stop motion is an animation technique in which a camera is repeatedly stopped and started, frame-by-frame, in order to give inanimate objects and figures the impression of movement.

Stop motion is similar to traditional animation in that it’s also a frame-by-frame process. While traditional animation is 2D and mostly hand-drawn, stop motion is photography turned into 3D animation. Laika is one of the most known.

3D Animation

3D animation is the art of using motion to bring characters, vehicles, props, and more to life within TV shows, films, and games. It's animating objects that appear in a three-dimensional space. They can be rotated and moved like real objects. 3D animation is at the heart of games and virtual reality, but it may also be used in presentation graphics to add flair to the visuals. Pixar and Disney are one of the best.

Anime

Anime is hand-drawn and computer animation originating from Japan. In Japan and in Japanese, anime describes all animated works, regardless of style or origin. However, outside of Japan and in English, anime is colloquial for Japanese animation and refers specifically to animation produced in Japan. It's a world of magical animated giant robots, giggling magic users, and post-apocalyptic chaos! At the moment it is very popular! Studio Ghibli is a legend in this domain.
