Smoothies, not just a flavour bomb in your mouth, but a nutrient bomb too! Packed with a multitude of vitamins, minerals and fibre, it is a simple way to help you hit that 5-a-day! You only need a blender and some fresh produce to get going.
There are so many ways to make a smoothie, and, speaking anecdotally, trial and error led to some of the best smoothies I've tasted to date. There is a simple formula that you can use to guide you, but almost anything goes!

Base

Firstly, you want a base. This gives you the thickness of your smoothie. You can choose yogurt or even tofu (uncooked) for a creamier, ice-cream-esque smoothie that you can eat by the spoonful. Alternatively, opt for a liquid base like your favourite milk or water if you want to drink it on the go. I personally use a mix of tofu and yoghurt, mainly for that extra protein and probiotic boost. You will still need a splash of water or milk to get a creamy smoothie going in the blender.

F+V: Flavour and Vitamins a.k.a. Fruit and Veg

Next, you want to think of the fruits and veggies to use. I always add leafy greens to my smoothies - don't worry, you cannot taste them, and are masked well by the fruits you add. Fruit wise, my go-to is banana, for more creaminess, mango, God's gift to Earth, and raspberries, for those antioxidants. Any combo of fruits can be a winning combo, so don't hold back. Top tip - use frozen fruit and veggies.

Garnish

Lastly, garnishing. This really depends on what your goal is for your smoothie, and can either be blended in or sprinkled on top. Just finished a workout, add protein powder. Wanting something dessert like, pair cocoa powder with bananas for a milkshake. Need some micronutrients like omega, add a seed mix. Want a smoothie for the gram, garnish with sliced banana, berry compote and walnuts, and take a pic in good light.

There you have it, a simple guide to making a fruit smoothie; base, F+V, garnish. Best of luck, I know you'll love it 😁
