A macaron is a French delicacy of meringue-based cookies with added
ground almond. It is sandwiched between two cookies and commonly filled
with ganache, jam, buttercream or custard. My first introduction to
macarons happened a few years back at Selfridges's London foodhaal where
they have Pierre HermΓ©'s macarons for sale. I was intrigued and decided
to try some. I don't have sweet tooth but I found macarons are tasty
with the right amount of sweetness and the crisp shell but chewy on the
inside texture.
As a "hobby baker" I was then felt very challenged to create my own
macarons for sure. Little that I know, these delicates cookies are
notoriously temperamental and turn out not as easy as I thought it would
be to make. There were moments where I literally stand in front of the
oven just to see if my macarons developed feet π
. I eventually went to
a macaron making workshop and succesfully made my own macarons. I found
making macarons with the French meringue method is easier than those of
Italian meringue. If you would like to create your very own macarons
then you have come to the right place. You can find a recipe (it is
foolproof so you can't go wrong ππ½) and tips and tricks on the links
above.
