Love Your Leftovers

Time to tackle food waste!

In the UK alone 6.7 million tonnes of food is wasted each year. So what can we do about this? Here I will share 3 tips, we can try and implement to help reduce this number of food being wasted every year.

Tip 1:

Many a times we find ourself with a lot of leftover veg in them bottom of the fridge container. Which we then have no use for and have to bin. Or on other occasions we buy multipack bags of vegetables and struggle to use them all up. This is where your freezer comes in handy, a great way to save those veggies is buy prepping them and then putting them in the freezer. You can them add them to soups, curries, pies and many other things.

Tip 2:

Another great way of cutting down on foodwaste is by creating a meal plan, so when you go food shopping, you dont buy extra things that you don't need. Once you have a meal plan set out, you can then meal prep which allows you to cook the amount of food you need each day. This allows you to stop throwing away excess portions of food in the bin.

Tip 3:

Lastly, love your leftovers. As great as meal prep is sometimes it may not be practical for everyone. A great way to love those leftovers in the fridge is by reinventting them into another meal. If you have leftover mash potato in the fridge, you can then use it to make fishcakes for lunch the next day, or even use it as a pie topping for dinner another day. This allows you to not only strech that ingredient, but also stops you from throwing away that dish in the bin.
