Deep Azure Easter Eggs:
Make a bright holiday 🐇
Can you paint fairytale blue eggs using natural ingredients? Maybe, all you have to do is go hunting for red cabbage and take the time to get a little prepared in the kitchen.
Brown and reddish-brown eggs decorated with luxurious patterns are Easter classics in almost every family in Latvia. However, sometimes you do not want to, as usual, sometimes you have forgotten to accumulate onion peel, but other times you just want to try different methods so that the egg basket is full of colors. I am here to share a "deep azure" method with you today 🐰

To paint a large basket with bright blue eggs, you will need:
- 1 head of red cabbage;
- 3.5 l of water (quantity may vary depending on the size of the boiler);
- 100 g of vinegar;
- 20 uncooked, white eggs;
- thread or string;
- tights or gauze squares;
- sprouts, small flowers, leaves or herbs;
- lentils, quinoa, rice, oats.
- The whole process begins with the preparation of cabbage. Cut it into pieces, sprinkle with water and cook for 30 minutes. Then allow the decoction to cool completely.
- The following steps are no different from painting eggs in onion peels. From tights (preferably ones that are no longer wearable so that it is not a pity later) or gauze, make small "bags" to wrap eggs.
- At the bottom of each bag, pour some leaves, some grains, put an egg, put another leaf and grains - here is a free space for creativity and imagination. Tightly tie the bag, and then you can slightly hang the inside. Continue until all the eggs are wrapped, some can be left without additional decor, they will be just blue.
- When all the eggs are prepared as you like, put them in a cool decoction pot, arranging under the cabbage leaves, add vinegar. If necessary, water can be added to cover everything.
- Put the pot on the stove and wait until it starts to boil when this happens, turn off the fire and let everything cool.
- Leave the eggs in the pot until the next day or at least 10 hours, because only then the color will properly "bite" the egg shells.
- Eggs are even more luxurious if they shine beautifully. This is achieved by lubricating each with oil.
