Meditation can be defined as a set of techniques that are intended to
encourage a state of awareness and focused attention.
It is also a
consciousness-changing technique that has been shown to have a wide
number of benefits on psychological well-being.
Meditating is not
about eliminating your thoughts, it’s about learning to watch them
without judgment and maybe understand them. It’s about training the mind
and having a healthy perspective of the reality.
It has been
practiced in cultures all over the world for thousands of years and some
archaeologists date meditation back to as early as 5,000 BCE, and the
practice itself has religious ties in ancient Egypt and China, as well
as Judaism, Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism and Buddhism.
There are many
different types of meditation, a few a them are mindfulness meditation,
spiritual meditation, zen meditation, focused meditation, mantra
meditation and many other.
