Why do I love Crossfit?


CrossFit can be understood as a dynamic training approach that blends different types of exercise, including cardio, bodyweight movements, weight training and elements of gymnastics. It’s typically performed at a high intensity, helping to develop both strength and stamina while also supporting overall fitness, heart health and mental focus. At its core, CrossFit is built around functional movements/exercises that reflect real-life actions such as lifting, pushing, pulling and jumping. These movements are constantly varied, meaning no two workouts feel exactly the same. Alongside training, CrossFit also promotes a balanced lifestyle, often encouraging a diet rich in lean proteins and fresh vegetables. Overall, it can be described as a fitness sport that challenges both the body and the mind.
Structure of a CrossFit Workout
A typical CrossFit session is made up of several parts, each designed to target different aspects of fitness such as strength, endurance, flexibility, speed and coordination. Workouts usually begin with a warm-up to prepare the body for exercise. This often includes light cardio activities like jogging or skipping, followed by mobility and stretching to loosen up the muscles and joints.
Strength Training: This section focuses on improving technique and building strength. It may involve weightlifting movements, strength-based exercises or practising gymnastic skills to develop better control and form.
Workout of the Day (WOD): The WOD is the main part of the session and changes daily. It typically combines different exercises such as running, rowing, jumping or lifting. The goal is to complete a certain number of repetitions or rounds within a set time, usually around 20–30 minutes, making it both physically demanding and mentally engaging.
Cool-Down: To finish, the session includes a cool-down phase with light movement and stretching. This helps the body recover, reduces muscle tightness, and lowers the risk of injury. One of the key features of CrossFit is its variety of workouts are rarely repeated, which keeps training interesting and helps avoid plateaus. In addition, exercises can be adjusted to suit different fitness levels, making CrossFit accessible whether you’re a beginner or more experienced.
