Mataró is a coastal town in Catalonia and the capital of the Maresme region, situated 30 km north of Barcelona. With a population of over 130,000, it is known for its Roman heritage, its marina, its beaches and for being the starting point of the Iberian Peninsula’s first railway, which opened in 1848.
