The Canada–United States border, is the longest international border in the world between two countries. The terrestrial boundary (including boundaries in the Great Lakes, Atlantic and Pacific coasts) is 8,891 kilometers (5,525 mi) long. The border has been closed to non-essential travel for nearly one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The closure has been extended on a monthly basis, and is in place until at least March 21, 2021. This ongoing closure has had significant impacts to cross-border communities, families, and couples.
