Funfetti for Everyone

Sweet as Sugar & Sprinkles of FUN!

What is Funfetti cake?

Confetti cake (Funfetti) is a type of cake that has rainbow colored sprinkles baked into the batter. It is called confetti cake because when baked, the rainbow sprinkles melt into dots of bright color that resemble confetti. The cake was created in 1989 when the Pillsbury Company introduced a new type of cake called "Funfetti" cake, a portmanteau of fun and confetti. This was a white cake mix with multicolored sprinkles mixed into the batter. The cake's unique look was meant to target the demographic of children. The cake soon gained popularity and in 1990 Betty Crocker introduced a cookie that was to be eaten with icing that had sprinkles mixed into it, called Dunk-a-roos. Pillsbury owns the trademark to "Funfetti" so the cake is generally called confetti cake, or can also be referred to as a sprinkle cake.

Funfetti Tips & Tricks

All about the SPRINKLES

When baking a confetti cake it is important to use jimmyies (the long sprnkles) and never nonpareils (the tiny ball sprinkles). Natural colored sprinkles and nonpareils tend to bleed, fade, or melt.

Frost yourself

The tradional frosting (icing) for a confetti cake is vanilla buttercream made from butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, and cream. Add a twist by trying cream cheese buttercream, strawberry buttercream, or a beautiful swiss meringue buttercream!

Its "FUN-fetti", not "have a nice time-fetti"

It's all about having FUN! You can turn many of your favorite treats into confetti treats. Confetti cookies, confetti cheesecake, and confetti pancakes are just a few options. All you need to do is add SPRINKLES (and a whole lot of smiles). If the item is not being baked or heated, you can use almost any type of sprinkle in your treat. A delicious option is confetti popcorn made from popcorn, white chocolate, funfetti cake mix, and sprinkles. Find more confetti treat receips
