Pilates originated with Joseph Pilates (1880–1967), a German-born fitness enthusiast who developed his " Contrology" method in the early 20th century. It began as rehabilitation for soldiers during World War I using bed springs for resistance, and later evolved in New York with dancers and athletes. The method blends yoga, gymnastics, and ancient practices to create a mind-body system focused on core strength, flexibility, and overall vitality.
