L'Amour SS21

JacquemusSpringSummer2021

Simon Porte Jacquemus staged his Spring 2021 collection for his namesake label in a field of gold. Naming the collection "L'Amour", a declaration of love for his team, and sprinkled it with Provençal references, such as ceramics, a poem by Miró, a corner of a grandmother’s tablecloth, and a colander of cherries.

The collection — a sexy-chic whirlwind of neutral pieces in linen, silk, and other lightweight fabrics. There were coquettish slip dresses in cream, black, and yellow, exaggerated shirts that were cropped or featured plunging necklines, and pencil skirts with high slits. Several references were made to provincial life, including gingham tops and frocks with appliqués that mirrored barley leaves and spikes. "We must remain positive; we've been a sunny brand from the start and we continue to be so, despite the crisis we continue to exist, to survive, to celebrate," Jacquemus said.

Despite complicated logistics, visually this show was a masterstroke. Fashion has always been about creating a bit of fantasy, and Jacquemus knows how to deliver.
