A cleft palate is a congenital defect where the roof of the mouth doesn't close properly, creating an opening between the mouth and nasal cavity. This condition varies in severity as these puppies are not able to nurse from mum or be bottlefed due to the cleft palate being a funnel straight into the lungs. Tube feeding as the only safe way to feed them by bypassing the cleft, going straight into the stomach avoiding aspiration. Surgical repair is an option once the puppy is fully grown.
Emiyasu is the sweetest little Boston Terrier who was born on the 26.10.2024 with a grade 3 cleft. On 16.10.2025 she
underwent the surgical repair involving a gum flap to close the gap. Her recovery went exceptionally well and she is thriving.
