Comme des Garçons, often abbreviated as CdG, is a Japanese fashion label
founded in 1969 by designer Rei Kawakubo. The name means ‘like the boys’
in French and reflects Kawakubo’s vision of creating cross-gender
fashion that distances itself from traditional norms. Comme des
Garçonsis known for its experimental and conceptual approach to fashion.
Rei Kawakubo often emphasises the imperfect and the unconventional,
which is reflected in deconstructed silhouettes, unusual material
combinations and innovative techniques. The designs are often sculptural
and play with the boundaries between art and wearable clothing.
