A journey that started in my father’s yard

🏀It started with a Ball and a dusty court

I started playing netball when I was 10 years old, back then, in the village. My Dad bought us a ball and set up the poles right in our compound. It wasn’t anything fancy, but to me, it meant everything. That field in my father’s yard, became our little stadium.

My older sister Ulla, who was playing for her secondary school at the time, became our coach. She taught us how to pass, shoot, defend and before I knew it, I was hooked. That’s where my love for netball truly began.

🤾‍♀️ Where passion outplayed uniforms

We didn’t have kits, just mismatched T-shirts and school skirts. We played barefoot like true warriors and pretending the sun was not trying to melt us. Every afternoon after school, we would be out there. Sometimes just my siblings and I, other times joined by neighbourhood kids who showed up like it was the Netball World Cup. Netball quickly became more than a game, we had passion and energy for days!

💕It’s More Than a Game

Netball has always been more than just a sport to me. It taught me discipline, teamwork, resilience and joy . Whether I’m on the court or thinking back to those days in my father’s compound, netball reminds me of who I am and how far I’ve come.
