My love of hiking started by mistake when I signed up to a tour, to
the Great Wall of China. What a lot of us didn’t realise was there was
a 30 minute hike up to a quieter part of the wall. Turning up
unprepared, it took us more like an hour+! When we reached the Great
Wall of China, relieved the upwards part of the hike was over and glad
we brought plenty of water, the sense of achievement hit. I’d done
something that I never thought I would and if I’d had realised in
advance, would probably have avoided. Then THE VIEWS 🤩. The lack of a
crowd meant we got a clear 360 degree view. It was stunning and I
realised that without the hike this wouldn’t have been possible. A
mistake with an amazing silver lining and no regrets.
I was hooked! Spending my early 20s going hiking whenever I could and
tying it in with other joys of mine, raising money for Chairty and
travelling. From the 3 Peaks, the Peak District and the Lake District
for charity, to taking the opportunity to hike in the Rockies while
travelling around Canada.
Whether it’s the love of the outdoors, reach the top or set a new PB,
exploring new places, unbelievable views, raising money for charity,
or any of the other ways you can enjoy hiking 🏞️; just do it the your
way.
