Like people, all cats are different.
Consider adopting from an animal welfare organisation and always check you are buying from a good breeder or seller.
Adult cats already have a developed personality and are usually quite self-sufficient. They are happy to be left on their own.
Kittens are very cute but need a lot of care and time. Try to visit when they are still with their mother - they should look healthy and be alert and sociable.
Even if you are interested in a particular breed, remember that the personality of a cat is not just about genetics, it also depends on their level of socialisation - especially between the ages of 2-7 weeks.
Cats can also inherit traits from the father cat, so if their dad was timid, they may be too!
Remember all cats are individuals - even within the same breed!
