😍😎 My First Car πŸš—πŸš˜

Hyundai Elantra

It's my first car, and I'm really enjoying the adventures it brings β€” whether it's trips to the beach, hiking, or exciting road trips. Recently, I saw a woman with a broken-down car on the side of the road, and it made me realize how little I know about car maintenance. Understanding the basics can save money and headaches, so I looked up some useful tips that might help you too!

DIY Car Maintenance Tips:

  1. βœ… Check and Maintain Tire Health

    • Tire pressure: Check monthly and before long trips using a pressure gauge.
    • Tread depth: Use a coin or tread gauge. Replace tires if the tread is below 3mm.
    • Rotate tires: Every 10,000 km to ensure even wear.
    • Wheel alignment & balance: Get it checked if you feel pulling or vibration while driving.
  2. βœ… Check All Exterior Lights

Make sure your headlights, indicators, and brake lights are all working properly.

  3. βœ… Ensure Windscreen Wipers and Washers Work Properly

    • Change wipers at least once a year or if they leave streaks or skip.
    • Ensure the blade length and style match your car model.
  4. βœ… Make Sure the Horn Works

Test the horn to ensure it's loud and clear β€” it's a key safety feature.

  5. βœ… Test the Handbrake

Make sure the handbrake holds the car on steep hills. If the handbrake light stays on after release, check the brake fluid level.

  6. βœ… Check Dash Warning Lights

If a warning light comes on while driving or doesn’t turn off with the engine running, stop when safe and investigate or seek help.

  7. βœ… Inspect Seat Belts and Hoses

    • Check seat belts for wear and make sure they lock when tugged.
    • Inspect hoses for cracks, fraying, bulges, or brittleness. They should feel firm, not squishy.
