The famous American author Steven King once said
"Books are a uniquely portable magic"
a wonder for every bookworm who always has a book in their bag knowing
the splendid adventures that await one with just a mere turn of the
page. Reading books fires up the imagination, you get to go on an
adventures into other worlds, hear the most intimate thoughts of people
who have long since passed, have your thinking and opinions challenged
whilst also learning new skills.
In this digital era that we
live in, reading books helps improve the vocabulary whilst also helping
individuals, especially kids, to keep and maintain a longer attention
span as reading requires one to concentrate. To encourage more young
people to read books,South Africa commemorates National Book Week from
the 5th to the 11th of September each and every year. National Book Week
is an important initiative in encouraging the nation to value reading as
a fun and pleasurable activity and to showcase how reading can easily be
incorporated into one's daily lifestyle. The commemoration coincides
with International Literacy Day on the 8th of September every year.
