The sad story of the Nil Points!

Why does the UK usually get 0 points in the Eurovision Song Contest? Is it because the UK is hated, as is the tale told within the UK or is it because countries that try to win actually hold some sort of qualifier before entering their submission? This doesn’t guarantee anything, but it’s way more likely that they find a song with hit potential. Their songs are pluged massively in radio broadcasts, to DJs and online all over Europe, leading up to the event itself. Whereas the UK hires some industry professional to go and look for a song, which is a lot more hit and miss. Then they fail to plug it, domestically or internationally.

Look, for instance, at the Swedish entry for 2025. There was a five-week selection process, finally settling on one song where popular vote was pivotal and reached number one on Spotify's Global Viral Chart. It’ll probably stay in the top 40 all summer! The British entry peaked at #31 in the UK. If the UK don't even buy their own song, how can it be expected for other countries to buy into it. It’s competently composed and performed, but you have 3 minutes to convince 160 million people that this song is better than the other 25. Yes, performance, a memorable artist or a huge geopolitical gaffe can all affect the vote (as we saw in 2022) but what really matters in the end is whether you have a great song! Why not watch the songs for youself here
