The Concorde was a turbojet-powered supersonic passenger airliner, a joint project between British Airways and Air France. It could cruise at Mach 2.04 more than twice the speed of sound.
It first flew in 1969 and entered service in 1976. Despite its speed and elegance, Concorde retired in 2003 due to high operating costs and reduced demand.
