Phingo Farm is a small green initiative in Salima, Malawi. We are named
after the local word for the African Blackwood tree(Dalbergia melanoxylon) – a rare, slow-growing species native to this area. Since 2021, we’ve
been growing native tree seedlings - including several species listed by
the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). We aim to
create a space where nature is nurtured, biodiversity thrives, and the
land is respected.
Our mission
To
grow 20 hectares of forest
and, protect biodiversity
by caring for natural habitats, and support
organic farming
that’s kind to the land, climate, and our community.
A moment to pause beneath the trees...
A tree poem 🍂
Trees are born blind and in need of each other. With luck they come up
in a forest with brothers and sisters to listen to.
Growing up for a tree is mostly reaching out and out to touch another,
and that’s enough of a life. None of them know where they are, but
that’s OK. It doesn't matter.
They don’t ask for much, a good rain now and then, and what they like
most are the sweet smells of the others, and the warm touch of the
light, and to join the soft singing that goes on and on.
