Travel is the movement of people between distant geographical locations.
Travel can be done by foot, bicycle, automobile, train, boat, bus,
airplane, ship or other means, with or without luggage, and can be one
way or round trip. The origin of the word "travel" is most likely lost
to history. The term "travel" may originate from the Old French word
travail, which means 'work'. According to the Merriam-Webster
dictionary, the first known use of the word travel was in the 14th
century. It also states that the word comes from Middle English
travailen, travelen and earlier from Old French travailler. In English,
people still occasionally use the words travail, which means struggle.
Travel in modern times may or may not be much easier, depending upon the
destination.
