Therapeutic Radiographers are qualified to use specifically designed machines to deliver high energy x-rays to patients for therapeutic purposes. The most common use of this treatment is for Cancer; 40% of patients will require Radiotherapy treatment.
As Therapeutic Radiographers we use a lot of high tech equipment! We must understand how to use it, and be innovative in how we could develop things for the future to improve our care.
The first step is to use the CT scanner to gain the information we need to plan the treatment. Then we use this information to design a treatment plan to be delivered.
The treatment machine is called a LINAC, short for Linear Accelerator. It looks like this:
