The Dudley Laborador is a Yellow Labrador Retriever that is born without any pigment in their nose, eye rims, and feet---so they appear flesh colored or "pink". Let's clarify: all Labradors are born with pink noses. For the majority of Labs, their noses will turn black or darker brown over the first few weeks of their lives. However, because Dudley Labs have less melanin, their noses, the rims around their eyes, and their feet stay pink (flesh colored) for their entire lives. This coloration is due to a genetic variation in the density and type of melanin carried in the dog’s cells. As a result, Dudley Labradors often have lighter fur color and may also exhibit lighter eye colors, such as blue, teal and amber gold. Dudley Labradors are a natural genetic occurrence, but they are relatively rare.
Note: The name "Dudley" does not imply that these dogs are considered "duds" in terms of quality or temperament. Instead, it primarily relates to their unique appearance. While some breeders may not prioritize Dudleys for show purposes due to breed standards that favor darker noses, this does not reflect the dog's worth or ability as a pet or working dog.
