Chess is a two-player strategy game that involves moving pieces on an 8x8 board with the goal of checkmating the opponent’s king. It is one of the oldest and most popular board games in the world. The origins of chess trace back to Chaturanga, a game played in India around the 6th century CE. Chaturanga later spread to Persia, where it became Shatranj, and then to the Islamic world and Europe, evolving into modern chess by the 15th century. The rules were standardized in the 19th century, leading to the development of competitive chess as we know it today.
