The word "Bonsai" is a Japanese term that, literally translated, means
"planted in a pot." This art form derives from an ancient Chinese
horticultural practice, parts of which were later revised under the
influence of Japanese Zen Buddhism.
It has been practiced for more than a thousand years. The goal of
growing a Bonsai is to create a miniaturized yet realistic
representation of nature in the form of a tree.
