The name "Coca-Cola" comes from two of its original ingredients: coca leaves and kola nuts. Coca-Cola was originally sold as a nerve tonic medicine that "relieves exhaustion". It was also advertised as a brain tonic to relieve headaches. Coca-Cola was the first soft drink in space, offered to NASA astronauts in the mid-1980s. Only a handful of people know the Coca-Cola recipe Coca-Cola was first served on May 8, 1886, making it 137 years old. Dr. John Pemberton, a pharmacist in Atlanta, Georgia, created the drink.
