When I think about what I’m passionate about, my little flock of green cheek conures immediately comes to mind. These lively, intelligent, and affectionate birds have brought so much joy to my life, and they’ve truly become part of the family.
It all started with two birds: Sherbet, a vibrant pineapple green cheek conure, and Einstein, a classic green cheek conure. These two met and fell in love back in 2018, and their bond has been inspiring to watch. A few years ago, they started their family, hatching their first clutch of eggs. Now, I’m lucky enough to share my home with their two beautiful babies, Sunny and Cher (or as I affectionately call her, Cherrie).
Here’s our little flock family lineup, from left to right on my arm in our family portrait:
Sunny and Cher are the perfect blend of their parents, sharing a strong sibling bond. They moved out of their parents’ cage last year into their own “place” next door, but the entire family still hangs out daily. Whether they’re watching Bob’s Burgers or Peep and the Big Wide World, munching on their favorite Lafeber's Tropical Nutri-berries, or enjoying their favorite Taylor Swift song, they do everything together in their cozy bird-friendly room.
One of the most rewarding parts of sharing my life with these conures is watching them learn and grow. Green cheek conures are highly intelligent, with the cognitive ability of a 4-year-old child. My oldest birds can say short phrases like “I love you,” “What are you doing?” and “Pretty bird.” They even call me by name and come when I call them!
Free-flying and well-behaved, my conures fill my home with laughter, chatter, and the occasional flutter of wings. They’re not just pets—they’re companions for life. Green cheek conures can live 20–30 years, and I’ve made it my mission to provide them with the best care, plenty of enrichment, and all the love they deserve.
Having these amazing birds has taught me patience, responsibility, and the simple joy of being present in the moment. I look forward to many more years of learning, growing, and bonding with my little flock. They’ve become my passion, my family, and a source of endless inspiration. 💛
