I will take a wild guess and say are you are an adult learner. If I am right, hereβs a question for you:
π€ Do you learn the same way you did when you were a child?
Yes and no, right? When it comes to what makes adults different from any other learners, there are a few things that stand out.
Malcolm Knowles
recognized 7 principles in his theory β see how these apply to you:
- Adults must want to learn β They learn effectively only when they are free to direct their own learning and feel intrinsically motivated to learn.
- Adults will learn only what they feel they need to learn β Adults need to see the direct usefulness of what they are learning.
- Adults learn by doing β Adolescents learn by doing, but adults learn through active practice and participation.
- Adult learning focuses on problem-solving β Adults tend to start with a problem and then work to find a solution.
- Adults often refer to their own experience when learning β Adult learners rely heavily on their experiences when they engage in learning.
- Adults learn best in informal situations β Adults learn by taking responsibility and being an active participant in the learning process.
- Adults want guidance and consideration as equal partners in the process β Adults want information that will help them improve their situation.
