This Toddler Momma's Me-time

"What are your hobbies?" they ask. As every working toddler momma knows, maintaining hobbies is a challenge. And this momma is a teacher who carries loads of work home everyday. I love cooking, but right now that mostly involes finding healthy recipes my toddler will actually eat. There is little time for the exploratory, exotic, spicy cooking I once loved. I love to travel, but my trips have changed from diving, trekking and concert-going to visits home to family. I love to spend an entire day at the beach, but now that mostly includes chasing my little boy around, far from the relaxing experience it once was. I used to love to run, but training for marathons requires a lot of dedicated time. After taking care of others and work, there is little time left for hobbies.

So, what is a mom to do with the elusive little windows of free time? I read! You can do it whenever and wherever. You can do it for however long time allows. You don't have to go anywhere, or you can. You don't have to talk to people or you can make it a social affair. You can get lost in a story, learn something new, take a trip back in time, explore the lives of others, aspire to and be intrigued by the accomplishments that amaze you, and just finally find your space to be quiet, let go of work and the never-ending to-do list for a minute, and relax.
