Legend says, circa AD 800-900, an Ethiopian goat herder named Kaldi discovered coffee after noticing
that
his goats became more energetic after eating berries from a certain shrub. He grew curious and
tried the berries himself. He noticed it had a similar effect on him as well.
After Kaldi's discovery a monk got intrigued by the mysterious berries. He picked some, crushed them
into powder and added boiling hot water to it. This may have been the first-ever cup of coffee made.
Afterwards, the monks used this drink to stay awake longer during their long prayers and considered it
"a gift from God".
Eversince then, coffee spread all across the world and nowadays most people cannot even imagine their life
without it. It is not just a drink anymore, but a morning ritual and a cornerstone of social gatherings for
many people.
