Attracting Birds To Your Yard!
If you provide for their basic needs including food, water, shelter and a palce to raise their young - it's easy to attract birds to your yard!
Food
- Birds are more attracted to black oil sunflower seeds more than any other feed. Other popular feeds are thistle seeds, millet and nuts.
- Suet (rendered fat) is especially attractive to wood-peckers, chickadees and nuthatches
- To make hummingbird nectar. Mix four parts water to one part sugar - change nectar everyday
Water
- A bird bath or shallow dish meets the need of drinking and bathing
- Keep water level under 5 cm and clean it regularly

Shelter and Bird Houses
- Shrubs, thickets and brush piles are ideal sources of cover for birds to reatreat when threatened
- Bird houses should be constructed of unfinished woods at least 1.3 cm thick
- The lid or floor should be hinged for cleaning
